True first-year wide receiver Derius Davis was named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the week after his season-opening performance versus Southern.

Davis scored two touchdowns, one receiving and one on a punt return, to go along with three catches for 49 yards Saturday.

“[Derius] showed out [Saturday],” sophomore quarterback Shawn Robinson said. “What he did is something all wide receivers can do.”

Davis’s 73-yard punt return touchdown was the first by a true first-year since Ka’Vonte Turpin in 2015.

“He did his job, and he got two touchdowns,” sophomore receiver Jalen Reagor said after the Horned Frogs 55-7 win Saturday.
