New express food pick-up option on campus

Students can skip the lines at Chick-fil-A, Union Grounds and the King Family Commons just by tapping an app.

TCU introduced Tapingo, an order-ahead and delivery app for on-campus dining, this semester. The app is linked to student meal plans or a credit card. The express pick-up service was launched in 2012.

While it’s new to TCU, it’s familiar at universities such as the University of Southern California, the University of Arizona, Ohio State University, Oklahoma State University, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Austin.

Tapingo is part of an effort to alleviate long lines at all on-campus dining services at lunch, said Student Government Association (SGA) Dining Services Chair Jack Leonhard.

If the service is received well this semester, SGA will look to expand Tapingo into a food delivery service across campus.

“The lines definitely impact my commute between classes because it takes so much longer to do everything,” said Jarrett Blasingame, a junior environmental science major. “This gives us the opportunity to cut down the line and allows more students to eat on campus.”

Blasingame said he used the app to order from Chick-fil-A and that it’s convenient for anyone in a rush.

“It provided a shorter way to get around lines,” he said. “It keeps me from taking time from other things, which is super helpful.”

Sophomore business student Connor Miller said he was able to pick up his food 10 minutes after he ordered.

SGA said it hopes Tapingo puts the convenience back into quick-service dining options on campus.

“Students that I’ve talked to really enjoy the service, especially when it comes to King Family Commons,” Leonhard said. “The lines there tend to get very long, so giving them the ability to order ahead has helped the issue.”

To set up a Tapingo account, download the Tapingo app from the App Store or Google Play Store and log in with your TCU account.
