We’re back and we’re reading – everything from the “New York Times” to the “Wall Street Journal.” We’re trying to help you keep up with the rapid pace of politics and policy. Today we’ve got Nikki Haley announces her resignation, an old political face is set to surface and President Trump is back on the campaign trail.

Hurricane Michael made landfall

Hurricane Michael made landfall in the Florida Panhandle Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Michael was the worst storm to ever hit the Panhandle.

The Category 4 hurricane had top winds of 155 mph.

According to CBS News, 288,502 customers are without power in Florida and approximately 40,000 customers without power in Georgia as well as Alabama.

As of 5 p.m. ET, Michael is moving further inland, but remains and “extremely dangerous hurricane.”

CBS News has live updates of Hurricane Michael.

Nikki Haley gets a proper send-off from the Trump

Unlike other former employees of the Trump administration, United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley worked closely with President Donald Trump on the timing of her resignation announcement.

Her resignation was kept secret from White House aides.

Some former employees heard rumors of their resignation for months or were fired via Twitter.

A month out from the midterm elections, Haley may have not wanted her departure to appear as a response to a potential Republican loss.

Concerned over impeded growth, Trump criticizes Fed rate increases

President Donald Trump voiced his displeasure over higher short-term interest rates set by the Federal Reserve, but said he hasn’t spoken to Fed Chairman Jerome Powell because he doesn’t want to get involved in monetary policy.

Trump said that given the lack of inflationary pressures in the economy right now that he believed the Fed was increasing its benchmark rates too fast.

“You don’t see that inflation coming back,” Trump said. “Now, at some point it will… I just don’t think it’s necessary to go that fast” on raising rates.

The Fed has raised benchmark rates three times this year, including a quarter percent bump to 2.25 percent last month.

Weiner walks

Former New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner is set to be released from prison about three months earlier than expected.

Weiner, who pleaded guilty in May 2017 to one count of transferring obscene material to a 15-year-old girl, has faced an array of sexual scandals that derailed his political career.

According to CNN, Weiner was an up-and-coming congressman for the Democrats before he resigned in 2011 following the release of a lewd photo he posted on his Twitter.

More sexually-explicit exchanges between Weiner and other women were released during his run for New York City mayor in 2013.

Trump leaves no stone unturned on the campaign trail

President Donald Trump joked about impeaching himself and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh at a campaign rally Tuesday night in Council Bluffs, IA.

“The Democrats are even talking about doing really bad things now to Justice Kavanaugh,” Trump said. “Last week, they were saying ‘we’ll impeach.’ … I’d have to go first, right? Don’t I? Even though we haven’t done anything wrong but create one of the greatest economies in the history of the world.”

Trump was in a light-hearted mood following Kavanaugh’s confirmation, but his mood changed drastically when the conversation turned to Democrats and the impact of the midterms.

“Democrats want to raise your taxes, impose socialism, dismantle law enforcement, eliminate ICE (the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency) and get rid of American borders,” Trump said.

Trump also called out specific Democrats, including Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Corey Booker (D-NJ), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA) during the speech.

That’s all we have for today. Check back tomorrow for more.
