For the second year in a row, the Pink Peppermint Project hosted the Glamcon Experience Oct. 20 at Lofty Spaces in Dallas to give back to those who have fought a battle against breast cancer.
The Pink Peppermint Project is a charity that guides patients and their caregivers with a better approach on their journey to maintain a self-loving attitude. It was founded in 2017 by Shantaquilette Carter after she witnessed her aunt and two friends lose their battle against cancer.
“After hearing my aunt say that cancer was making her feel less beautiful, I wanted to give back to those battling cancer and make them feel better about themselves,” Carter said.
All the proceeds from Glamcon go to the charity to fund beauty packages that are given to patients and survivors. It also funds caregivers who go out and help those fighting their battle with cancer.
The Glamcon Experience is an event to honor survivors, patients battling the disease and for the caregivers and family who support those who are fighting their battle with breast cancer. The event provides free beauty services such as nails and eyebrows, and they have a hair/wig bar.
Na’Diah Smith is a breast cancer survivor and was the guest of honor at last year’s event.
“Glamcon allowed me to let my hair down, relax and connect with others that understand me,” Smith said.
Smith was a member of the Glamcon panel this year and shared her story. She was joined on the panel by her breast surgeon, Dr. Terre McGlothin.
“This conference had something for every stage in the fight,” said Sundra Grandbury, another breast cancer survivor.
She said most events don’t address survivor’s guilt, but this conference was different and was very encouraging.
Grandbury said the event was uplifting because looking good helps you feel good, and she wants to share this experience with others.
Glamcon is a special event beginning its campaign to help survivors and patients feel beautiful despite the disease they are battling. This honorable event plans to raise $30,000 before 2020 and are always welcoming sponsors.
