Latin sorority’s politically inspired social media post goes viral

One of TCU’s Latin sororities is using their social media to encourage people to vote.

In anticipation of the midterm elections next week, Alpha Zeta, TCU’s chapter of Chi Upsilon Sigma, tweeted out a flyer with information about the candidates running for senator, governor and attorney general. Zayda Torres, a member of the chapter, created the flyer.

A member of TCU’s Alpha Zeta chapter created the flyer as a simple way to learn about the political candidates

“There’s been a lot of movement in social media right now, like informing people our age, which I think is a really good way to reach out to people,” Torres said.

Healthcare, abortion and immigration are a few of the issues presented on the flyer.

“It’s just important because a lot of the issues that are being decided on affect our families and our communities, and if we don’t get out and vote, we don’t get to have a say in what’s going to happen to us,” Torres said.

Chapter president Samantha Gonzalez said she knew social media would be the best place to spread the word.

“Our generation makes it so easy for things to go viral, especially if it’s something that’s really relevant to what’s going on in the community,” Gonzalez said. “Right now in the community, everyone’s thing is making sure everyone goes out to vote. But, it’s really just about keeping people informed, so that’s what we were trying to do with the flyer.”

On Alpha Zeta’s Twitter, the flyer has more than 6,000 retweets and 7,000 likes.
