The Office of Admission is in the process of looking for a new Associate Director of Admission for transfer students.

A search committee of staff completed the first round of interviews for the new position and narrowed it down to three finalists, said Dean of Admission Heath Einstein. The previous associate director was Amanda Nickerson, who accepted a position at Tarleton State.

Transfer students make up about 5 percent of undergraduates; last year there were about 1,800 transfer applications, according to the TCU fact book.

Transfer students typically have a very different makeup than a first-year student, Einstein said. He said many are coming from the military, some are single parents and others are returning to school after a hiatus.

“As an institution that is constantly seeking to diversify its student body, we rely heavily on the transfer population to serve that purpose,” Einstein said. “We believe firmly that those students add great texture to the TCU community.”

The office is looking for someone with strong understanding and empathy for the different paths that students can take as well as sharp analytical skills to help recruit a large base of applicants, said Einstein.

The associate director works with a team which meets weekly to review transfer applicants’ applications.

The search is made up of TCU Admission staff, but they invite several other members of the campus community to participate in the interview process.

Einstein said they hope to have someone hired by the end of the month and begin working in December.
