We’re back and we’re reading – everything from “Fox News” to the “Washington Post.” We’re trying to help you keep up with the rapid pace of politics and everyday news. Today, we’ve got lawmakers trying to reach an agreement, an abandoned tiger, a former astronaut announcing campaign run, and a man accused of having four different wives.

U.S. lawmakers reach an agreement

It was announced late Monday that key lawmakers have a tentative deal that would avoid another government shutdown.

According to the Washington Post, the agreement happened during closed-door negotiations at the Capitol.

The proposed deal includes $1.375 billion for 55 miles of fences along the border. Trump previously asked for $5.7 billion for more than 200 miles of fences.

To avoid another shutdown, the proposed deal has to be written into final legislation, passed by the House and Senate, and signed into law by the president.

California governor plans to withdraw troops from border

Nearly 400 troops will be withdrawn from the southern California border.

Governor Gavin Newsom made the announcement Monday and said that the troops will be assigned to other duties.

He plans to redirect some withdrawn troops to the state’s central fire agency. Others will be redirected to a statewide service aimed at international criminal drug gangs.

This announcement follows a similar move made last week by the governor of New Mexico, according to The New York Times.

Newsome is expected to speak publicly about his decision in his State of the State address today.

Tiger found in abandoned home

A man planning to smoke marijuana at an abandoned home in Houston found a tiger in a cage, according to a report by CNN.

Authorities were suspicious at first because they thought he might have been under the effects of the drug.

Once authorities arrived at the house they found the caged tiger in the garage of the home.

The tiger is being transferred to a facility that is trained to handle exotic pets.

Winter storm spans part of country

A winter storm that swept across the Midwest hit the East overnight.

The storm brought rain, ice and as much as two feet of snow in some places like Wisconsin, Illinois, and even Maine, according to NBC.

Highway pileups, flight delays, and weather-related accidents have caused problems for many commuters.

Former astronaut announces Senate campaign

Former NASA astronaut, Mark Kelly is launching his campaign for United States Senate as a Democratic candidate.

Kelly, 54, said he has learned a lot from being an astronaut and in the Navy.

Gun control has been something he advocates for since retiring from NASA.

He is the husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-Arizona, who survived a shooting in 2011, according to a report by CNN.

In Kelly’s campaign announcement, he highlighted issues like affordable healthcare, climate change, stagnation of jobs, economy and job growth.

Man accused of bigamy has four different wives

A man was arrested in Ohio and charged with bigamy, authorities reported.

Michael Middleton, 43, is accused of being married to four different women and possibly a fifth who live in different states, according to NBC.

He was charged in January with one account of bigamy and did not appear last Thursday at his arraignment. This led to his arrest on Friday after a tip to the sheriff’s dispatchers.

One of Middleton’s wives said she felt “hurt” and “disgusted” that he lied to her and said he loved her.

That’s all we have for today. Check back tomorrow for more.
