TCU rifle heads to Colorado Springs Saturday for a shootout against Patriot Rifle Conference (PRC) foe Air Force for a chance to compete at the NCAA championships in March.

TCU’s stellar season was somewhat dimmed when they were bested by the Falcons at the PRC championships Feb. 2-3 and ended with a second-place finish. Despite this, TCU has two victories over Air Force in the regular season and is looking to add another on Saturday.

The Frogs are currently ranked second overall by the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) and look to capitalize off their momentum to return to the NCAA Championships.

TCU has been no stranger to the post season since Coach Karen Monez took over the program in 2003 and made it into one of the nation’s best. Since the program’s first NCAA championship appearance in 2007, the Frogs have made 12 consecutive appearances in the championship.

A win on Saturday would likely make it 13, with hopes of claiming the program’s third national championship.

When asked about the team’s upcoming match, Monez said she will be looking for the team to put on their best performance possible.

“They have to be striving to be their very best,” Monez said. “They have to be striving for excellence [in] every single shot.”

TCU is led by their lone senior, Rachel Garner, who is looking to finish off an impressive career that included All-American honors in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Garner is currently ranked as the No. 4 shooter in the country based on aggregate average scores.

“It’s my final year,” Garner said. “I really want to enjoy it, and I always do.”

TCU’s NCAA qualifier match against Air Force will take place on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado and will go on throughout the day. Fans can keep up with the live stats from the event here.
