TCU men’s golf got some strong performances from its seniors en route to a fourth-place finish at the Classic Club golf course this weekend in Palm Desert, California.
After the first round, David Ravetto was tied for first place. The senior shot a season-best 4-under 68 on Friday, including 3-under 33 on the front nine.
He shot an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole, one of just seven eagles for the 120-person field.
Hayden Springer and Pierre Mazier also had strong first rounds. Springer had four birdies and shot even-par 72, finishing the day tied for 7th place.
Mazier finished the first round by shooting 3-under 33 with four birdies on the back nine to finish 3-over 75 for the round. The Frogs finished the first round in third place and shot 3-over 291 as a team.
Ravetto shot 1-under 71 on Saturday and was one of four Horned Frogs to shoot at or under par. He ended the day tied for second place at 5-under 139.
Springer shot an even-par 72 for the second straight day and ended tied for eighth place. He had TCU’s second eagle of the tournament on the par-5 fourth hole.
Senior Stefano Mazzoli shot 3-under 69, which was TCU’s best round of the day, and he moved up 36 spots to move up to 11th place.
The Frogs improved seven strokes and remained in third place to end the second day of play.
Mazzoli was the top finisher for the Frogs as he had had his best round of the tournament Sunday. He had six birdies for the round and finished the tournament in eighth place.
Springer finished the tournament tied for 10th place and shot even-par 72 in all three rounds and finished with a score of even-par 216.
Ravetto finished tied for 13th at 2-over 218. Mazier joined Ravetto in the top 20 at 4-over 220, which placed him tied for 20th.
Sophomore Trevor Brown, who was competing as an individual, had five birdies in the first five holes and had six in the first nine for a score of 6-under 30. He was chasing the tournament record of 8-under 64 but bogeyed the final two holes for a final round score of 5-under 67, which was a career high.
As a team, the Frogs shot 4-over 292 for the round and 3-over 867 for the tournament.
The Frogs finished one shot behind third-place Kansas. No. 18 Texas Tech won the tournament with a score of 6-under 858.
The team will next be in action at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas on March 3-5.
