Trump sues to block latest bid for his tax returns

President Donald Trump is suing his long-time accounting firm Mazars USA and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance to prevent his tax returns from being sent to prosecutors in New York, according to CNN.

The state’s prosecutors are examining whether Trump’s payment to former adult film actress Stormy Daniels violates a state law against falsifying business records.

Trump’s lawyers are asking a judge to rule the subpoena invalid while the president is in office.

Mazars said it would comply with any legal obligations regarding the case.

U.S. cuts millions in aid to Afghanistan due to government problems

The U.S. State Department cut $100 million in aid to Afghanistan due to Afghan government’s inability to manage U.S. resources, according to The New York Times.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the cut in funding was due to the Afghan government’s corruption and mismanagement.

The $100 million, which was supposed to fund a hydroelectric power project to provide power to the cities of Kandahar and Ghazni in south and southeastern Afghanistan, will be returned back to the U.S. treasury.

New Mexico to offer free college to residents out of revenue from oil production

According to US News, New Mexico will announce a plan to make every public university and college within the state offer free tuition for all of its state residents.

The state’s plan would offer free tuition to all residents regardless of citizenship status or income. The program is eligible to recent high school, or high school equivalency, graduates with at least a 2.5 GPA.

Many democratic presidential candidates support a government-funded free education system, including Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
