Ampersand to open new location by campus

You’ve seen the signs walking down University Drive, and sooner rather than later Ampersand coffee will be open to the university crowd.

The coffee shop’s second location will be opening next to Pizza Snob in early to mid-November.

Ampersand University is taking over the space from Record Town, a record store that had been at the site since 1957, but will continue the store’s legacy.

“After learning so much about the history of the record store and the impact it had on the local music scene, we knew we had to preserve the history and carry on its legacy by creating a space that has the potential to become that next staple of University Drive,” Ampersand partner Tyler Morrow said.

The Ampersand University location will serve all of the same drinks as its location on Bledsoe Street, but it will also feature some TCU-inspired beverages.

“There will be a lot to learn from TCU, and we are always open to bring in items that are high in demand, which is why we have so many flavor options and milk options,” Morrow said. “We want to make sure we cater to our guests and everyone has a product they will love.”

Food will also be available for those who want a snack to pair with their drink. Some options will include breakfast tacos, avocado toast and dessert toast.

This second Ampersand location will face a few challenges regarding peak hours and a general student schedule, which includes the rush between classes.

“We’ve really fixed our operations to handle the influx of traffic we are expecting to face,” Morrow said. “Our goal for the second location is to not only provide our customers with the best product but to do it congruently in the best and most efficient way possible.”

This second location will be smaller in size, but it is curated to the university community. This location will be a place to study and relax, and it will offer different hours of operation from its Bledsoe location.

“Our new location will create the opportunity for us to provide the students and staff of TCU our locally roasted coffee with everyone’s schedules in mind, making it easy for the campus community to enjoy the product,” Morrow said.

Ampersand University will also accept Frog Bucks for those with a meal plan and it will offer seasonal discounts for TCU students and various discounts for TCU faculty and staff.

The coffee shop will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday- Friday and from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“As a recent TCU graduate, with the team of other Fort Worth locals, we couldn’t be more excited to bring this shop to campus and reflect the Horned Frogs and the city in our brand,” Morrow said.
