Iowa caucus results delayed due to miscommunications, functional problems

The results from Monday’s Iowa caucus were delayed due to issues with a new system used to tabulate votes, according to the New York Times.

There was widespread confusion over which voting methods were being used throughout the state. Some precincts tallied votes through an app, which malfunctioned, while others had thought caucus voters were calling in their votes over the phone.

Although no official winner has been declared, Politico reported that Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are in a tight race with 62% of the precincts reporting.

Iowa Democratic Party chairman Troy Price said the official results will be tallied and released sometime Tuesday.

2 killed, 1 wounded after shooting at Texas A&M University -Commerce

Two women were killed and a toddler was wounded after being shot Monday in a Texas A&M University-Commerce residence hall, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Campus Police Chief Bryan Vaughn said the toddler is currently in the hospital and in stable condition.

Police said there is no longer an active threat on campus.

Classes have been canceled through Wednesday.

Some students are calling for the university to enact more safety precautions, including restricting public access to campus.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh diagnosed with advanced lung cancer

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh announced Monday he has been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, according to Fox News.

Limbaugh said the cancer will keep him off air on certain days he has treatment but that his job has been the source of great “satisfaction and happiness” in his life.

“My intention is to come here every day I can and do this program as normally and competently and expertly as I do each and every day,” he said.

President Trump will deliver the State of the Union address tonight amid impeachment trial

President Trump will deliver the State of the Union address Tuesday night, the day before the Senate will hold the final vote on his impeachment trial, according to CBS News.

This event marks the second time in history a president will deliver this speech while undergoing an impeachment trial; former President Clinton was the first president to do so in 1999.

The State of the Union address is mandated under Article II of the Constitution, requiring the president to “give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”
