Sophomore Grace Collins scored her second career game-winning goal, and the No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs defeated Oklahoma 1-0 on Friday night to remain undefeated through their first eight games for the second time in the last three years.
“I’m really proud of our group. We had some adversity throughout the week,” head coach Eric Bell said. “Coming out the road and taking care of business was good. It would have been a bad deal for us if we played the way that we did and did not come away with a result.”
TCU controlled play in the first half by outshooting the Sooners 10-3. At one point, junior Payton Crews got a good look from the top of the 18, but Oklahoma goalie Nikki Panas made a diving stop on the goal line to keep the game scoreless.
Collins’ goal came in the 73rd minute of the match. Crews passed the ball to Collins who weaved her way around a defender, fired the shot and found the back of the net.
Goalie Emily Alvarado acheived her sixth shutout of the season, making her TCU’s all-time shutout leader with 19.
“I’m very proud of her [Alvarado]. She has put in the work and earned it. She has come a long way. She came to a program that was kind of fledgling and trying to do things the right way,” Bell said. “She believed in us. Now she is reaping the benefits of all her hard work and the team’s hard work. I couldn’t be more happy for her.”
The Horned Frogs out shot the Sooners 18-8. This is the fourth time they have outshot a team this season.
“I think we earned the result today against a very tough defending team that is hard to break down,” Bell said.
TCU will end its 2020 season Friday night when it hosts West Virginia. The winner of that match will be the 2020 Big 12 regular-season champion. The game will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
