Following a weekend putting up just seven total runs in three games, the No. 14 TCU baseball team has now scored 45 runs in their last four games, and their developing offensive rhythm could make them one of the country’s most dangerous teams.

Twenty-five of those runs came this weekend in the Frogs’ steam roll of the Liberty Flames, occurring over the span of three games all played within a full day.

TCU’s offensive explosion was a team effort, as they put up 28 hits and 21 RBIs in three straight dominant appearances.

Game 1

Thanks to a pair of home runs and strong pitching from start to finish, TCU took care of Liberty 4-1 on Friday night to start the weekend on a high note.

After struggling in his season debut against No. 6 Ole Miss, starter Johnny Ray worked hard for the Frogs this weekend, collecting eight strikeouts over the course of the first four innings.

While Ray was dealing, the TCU bats got going early. Three batters into the first inning, designated hitter Hunter Wolfe hit a bomb to right field to give the Frogs an early 2-0 lead.

Following the Flames’ solo shot in the third to cut the Frogs’ lead to one, Liberty stirred up the game with two more guys on base in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Nevertheless, TCU defense stepped up each time, with Ray getting them through the fourth and reliever Haylen Green ending the top of the fifth with just one pitch.

Catcher Zac Humphreys padded the Frogs’ lead later in the sixth, as he hit TCU’s second homer of the night, this one to right field to extend the lead to 4-1.

That’s where the score would stay through the ninth, as Green earned the win behind a stellar 4.1 innings pitched with just one hit given up.

Game 2

Because of projected storms on Sunday, the teams elected to play a double-header on Saturday, but that did not stop TCU from piling on the runs.

Behind heavy loads of offense in the second and seventh innings, the Frogs dismantled the Flames 9-2 in the first game of the double-header.

In the second, TCU put up three hits and scored four runs, as left fielder Elijah Nunez blasted a single up the middle with the bases loaded to highlight the scoring run.

Center fielder Phillip Sikes and catcher Connor Shepherd went on to hit back-to-back doubles and make the score 5-1 after starter Russell Smith sacrificed a run to the Flames in the third.

Smith went for three innings, giving up five hits and an earned up.

Charles King came to relieve them, pitching near-perfect innings, tallying five strikeouts and giving up just one earned run on solo home run by Liberty in the eighth.

By that time, it was too little too late for the Flames, as TCU scored three more runs in the seventh through a fielder’s choice, an error by Liberty and an RBI double by second baseman Brayden Taylor.

A sacrifice fly in the eighth rounded out the scoring for the Frogs, as five of their nine runs on the day came with two outs.

Game 3

After a short break between games, TCU came back even stronger, putting up 12 runs on 10 hits to complete the series sweep of Liberty in just around 24 hours.

Starter Austin Krob pitched a career-high six innings in the contest, providing much-needed duration for the Frogs playing in their fourth game in the last five days. The sophomore gave up two runs on six hits, tying his career high with five strikeouts.

Following Krob’s exit, Drew Hill, River Ridings and Garrett Wright each pitched a scoreless inning to finish the weekend in dominant fashion.

TCU got on the scoreboard right away, as Sikes hit his second double of the day to put two runs up and give the Frogs an early lead.

Mistakes plagued the Flames just an inning later, pushing the Frogs’ lead to five without the home team even producing a hit. Two walks, a hit by pitch, an error and a stolen base provided the three runs for TCU.

Following a Liberty triple in the fourth to prevent a shutout, Taylor then blasted his first home run in the next half inning to score three more for the Frogs and all but put the nails in the coffin for the Flames.

A pair of runs would come in the fifth and sixth inning for TCU, as they scored multiple runs in five of the first six innings of the game.

With the Frogs now at 5-2 on the season and on a four-game win streak, they’ll stay at home for a matchup with Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
