Despite guard Tavy Diggs’ career-high point count, the TCU Horned Frogs fell to the Baylor Lady Bears 92-55 in the Big 12 championship quarterfinals.

“I’m proud of our team, I’m proud of our growth and all the choices these women have made over the last 8 months so that we could play basketball,” head coach Raegan Pebley said. 

Baylor came out strong and didn’t look back as they led for the entire game. TCU didn’t score their first points of the game until five minutes into the first quarter. 

In the first quarter, TCU went 2 for 12 from the field and ended the quarter down 19-7.

Baylor forward NaLyssa Smith had 8 points in the first quarter, ending with a total of 26 points and seven rebounds in the win.

“Obviously NaLyssa Smith had a night with her opportunities right at the rim and in transition,” Pebley said.

The Horned Frogs scored 16 in the second quarter, coming within 13 of the Lady Bears to go into halftime down 36-23.

Diggs helped the Horned Frogs come within ten in the third quarter, scoring 12 of her 22 points. However, TCU was still down 59-42 by the end of the quarter.  

“Tavy did a really nice job in her opportunities in one on one,” Pebley said. 

Guard Lauren Heard only scored six points for the Horned Frogs during the loss.

“Lauren is more than this one game. We know that, and she knows that, and I would ride or die with Lauren Heard any day,” Pebley said. 

Baylor ran away with the game in the fourth quarter scoring 33 points and sealing the win for the Lady Bears.

TCU finished the season with a 10-15 record and is not expected to be selected to play in either the NCAA tournament or the WNIT.

As the Horned Frogs prepare for the 2021 season, it is still unclear whether seniors Michelle Berry and Lauren Heard will take advantage of their extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19.
