NASA lands helicopter on Mars

NASA made history this morning by landing its Ingenuity helicopter on Mars, according to Fox News.

The entire flight in the Jezero Crater flight zone was predicted to take 40 seconds as the helicopter captured images with a 13-megapixel camera.

Ingenuity made it to Mars by hitching a ride from the Perseverance rover. 

After more than six years and $85 million, the highly rewarding trip was successfully completed.

Closing arguments set to begin in Chauvin trial

In the murder trial of George Floyd, Derek Chauvin’s closing arguments are set for Monday morning according to NBC News.

Chauvin is being charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

After three weeks of testimony from dozens of witnesses, Steven Schleicher, a former federal prosecutor and veteran trial attorney, delivered the prosecution’s closing statements.

Schleicher closed by emphasizing that this case is not against the Minnesota police and added that policing is “a most noble profession.”

He then addressed the defense’s main argument that drug overdoses, an enlarged heart or carbon monoxide killed Floyd and asked if he would have died had Chauvin had not restrained him. 

After Schleicher’s closing statements the judge gave the jury instructions that spoke to the burden of proof. 

Wanted former sheriff’s detective arrested

Authorities arrested a former sheriff’s office detective suspected of killing three people in an Austin, Texas shooting, according to CNN.

Stephen Broderick was arrested Monday morning after two callers called in a suspicious person when they saw him walking down the side of 12300 Old Kimbro Road.

His arrest came nearly 24 hours after he shot and killed three people Sunday.

According to Austin Police Interim Chief Joseph Chacon, all three victims knew Broderick but the motive for the Austin shooting is still unknown.
