Students, faculty and the Kappa Sigma fraternity are still mourning the loss of junior Wes Smith, who was shot and killed on Sept. 1. Over the weekend, he was remembered at the “Run 4 Wes.”
Run 4 Wes is a fundraiser that was organized by Kappa Sigma juniors Nate Moore and Michael Turell. On Friday, students started a running plan: running four miles every four hours for 48 hours.
The fundraiser money goes towards the Wes Smith Endowed Memorial Fund.
“Wes took every opportunity to make an impact on those around him, and this scholarship will help keep his memory alive by offering financial support to those who come after him at a place he loved so dearly, TCU.” said junior business major Landon Bonadiman.
“At first it was a breeze, but once we hit mile 24 on Saturday, we were starting to feel it.” said junior finance major Nate Moore. The first day they started with 12 students and ended on Sunday with 50.
Not only is this a fundraiser, but also a memorial of Wes Smith’s life. TCU students across campus gathered to commemorate his impact. If a student donates, they are given a wristband labeled “Win 4 Wes,” a motto students have lived by since his passing.
The one-mile Run 4 Wes was mapped around TCU’s campus. When it was time to run, the students did four laps on the route. The run concluded Sunday at noon for the final 44-48 miles.
