U.S. military F-35 fighter jet has gone missing over South Carolina
U.S. military authorities asked the public for help after an F-35 fighter jet went missing while flying over South Carolina. The pilot ejected from the aircraft because of a “mishap” and was transported to a local medical care center in stable conditions.
Jeremy Huggins, a spokesman for Joint Base Charleston, said personnel from the Joint Base are working with Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to search around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion north of the air base. The search location was based on the jet’s last known position and coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration.
According to NBC News, the F-35 was left on autopilot mode while the pilot fled the aircraft, so there is a chance the jet is still airborne. There was no immediate indication of what prompted the pilot to eject from the aircraft.
