Gang violence on the rise in Haiti
Homicides, kidnappings and rapes have increased in Haiti over the past few months, Antonio Guterres, U.N. Secretary-General, said.
According to ABC News, the rise in homicides is due to a vigilante movement called “Bwa Kale,” which targets gangs. Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021, street gangs have grown more powerful and now control over 80% of the capital, Port-au-Prince.
In spite of a budget increase, Haitian police are still struggling to take control.
Due to a lack of border control and weapons management, weapons and ammunition are being trafficked into Haiti, mostly from the United States.

While the writers’ strike has ended, the film and television industry is still negotiating for an end to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
