Gaza loses power plant as tension between Israel and Hamas worsens

With the ongoing crisis happening in Gaza, the only power station in Gaza had stopped worked and the people are without power. Following the attack of the Hamas on Israel which resulted in the death of at least 1,200 people, the Israeli government has taken control of the electricity in the region

According to Galal Ismail, the head of Gaza power authority, people are still able to use their personal generators but the fuel needed for the generators is limited due to the lack of access to electricity.

With the Israeli also cutting on the water supply to Gaza, there will soon be a huge shortage on drinking water for the Palestinian people.

According to CNN, Israeli airstrikes have killed 1,055 people and wounded 5,184 others. The aftermath of Israeli bombs are preventing medical teams from being able to help civilians. The Israel Defense Forces have stated that their attacks are targeted towards Hamas terrorists in the region however many Palestinians in Gaza are being affected with nowhere to go.

After many Palestinians have fled to U.N. schools for protection, humanitarian groups have asked to get aid into Gaza fearing that hospitals may run out of supplies soon.

The massacre was led by an armed white mob where they killed hundreds of residents in the Greenwood, an affluent neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the time.

They burned down many black-owned businesses in the area and completely destroyed “Black Wall Street,” a prosperous area where many black entrepreneurs resided. Ellis was amongst the many group of black families who fled the area following the massacre.

Ike Howard, his nephew, told CNN that “he died waiting on justice.”

Ellis alongside many others filed a lawsuit against the city of Tulsa aiming to receive reparations for all that they lost during the massacre.

After an Oklahoma judge dismissed the lawsuit, the survivors’ attorneys have been able to appeal the decision. As of now, SCOTUS has made a statement saying that they would consider the appeal.

“Because of the massacre, my family was driven out of our house,” expressed Ellis in May of 2021. “We were left with nothing.”
