TCU knocks off their second top 10 opponent in a row after defeating the No. 2 Houston Cougars in a shootout. Down one with six seconds left on the clock, Emanuel Miller drives for a lay-up that gives TCU the 68-67 victory.
The Frogs struggled to keep up with the Houston defense in the first half and had seven turnovers, but TCU made up for those lost points by forcing Houston to draw 15 fouls and capitalizing from bonus and shooting-foul points.
The Cougars heavily pressured the Frogs in the paint and outscored TCU 40-28, which meant the Frogs had to rely on perimeter shooting to match Houston’s tempo. TCU shot 53% from three-point range, with Trevion Tennyson and Miller combining for six of the eight shots made.
TCU’s perimeter shooting and Houston’s 23 fouls is what put the Frogs over the edge. In the second half, TCU went 4/4 from behind the arc and outscored Houston from the field.
With back-to-back top 10 wins, TCU aims to be ranked in the top 25 in the upcoming AP poll. TCU led No. 9 Oklahoma throughout the second half of their matchup, winning by a comfortable margin and defeated Houston while trailing at half. The Frogs have shown they can compete with the best teams in the nation through these defining wins for the program.
