TCU is coming off a 7-0 hot streak where they have dominated in every match thus far. The last time these two teams met was October, where TCU won 15-5, outscoring the Bulldogs in all events. Today, the Horned Frogs struggled in their first Big 12 matchup of the spring season.
TCU lost 3-2 in their first match of fences. Ashleigh Scully had the highest score in the match at 90, matching her career high she set last week against Delaware State. The horse “Electric” would be a game changer, as Scully struggled with her fist ride with “Googan.” Scully would end up winning Most Outstanding Performance in Fences.
The Frogs turned it around in reigning, the second contest of the day, outscoring the Bulldogs 3-2. Georgia Medows had a high score of 72 for the Frogs, just edging out the Bulldogs high of 71.5 by Shelby Robinette. Medows would take home Most Outstanding Performer in her event.
The Frogs would come out on top in flat, outscoring Fresno State 3-2. Senior Sydney Berube set a career high of 88 while riding “Mac.” Berube was edged out by her teammate Laurel Smith who scored 89, riding “Striker” and would end up taking home Most Outstanding Performer in Flat.
TCU would earn their fifth sweep of the season, coming out on top 4-0 against Fresno State in horsemanship. Jessica McAllister would score 78 riding “Hector,” tying her season high and taking home Most Outstanding Performer in the event.
The Frogs advance to 8-0, their best start in program history. TCU’s next matchup is this Friday against South Carolina. The Frogs are 3-9 against the Gamecocks historically, but won their last matchup 8-9.
Coming into the spring season the Frogs were ranked first and on pace to have their best season since the inception of the program in 2006.
