Before he performed during the premiere of “America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League,” Preacher Lawson’s standup routine debuted at TCU.
Lawson was the headliner on Jan. 26—three days before AGT—for a packed house in the ballroom of the Brown-Lupton University Union. His opening acts were his mother, Mama Lawson and Peter Kim.
The trio opened the first comedy night of the semester hosted by theEnd. The crowd of nearly 500 was still piling in as Mama Lawson took to the stage.
Her motherly standup jokes made the audience laugh before Kim took the stage.
Kim entertained the audience with a standup about his sexuality and nationality. His sense of humor kept the people laughing before he introduced Lawson.
Audience members seemed anxious to see Preacher Lawson perform—he took the stage and did not disappoint. TCU students, faculty and parents listened to and laughed at his jokes about his dating life, siblings and life experiences before Lawson’s worldwide performance on television.
According to gold derby, he competed for $250,000 at AGT and made it to the second round of the semi-final along with the other top 10 competitors before being eliminated preceding the finals.
Lawson made the final round of both America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent in 2019.
According to his website, Lawson also has been seen on NBC’s television show “Connecting” and HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show.”
“Get To Know Me” was his first stand-up comedy, which aired on BET in 2019.
“Be on the lookout for my new special that will be premiering on Amazon,” Lawson said as he closed the show.
Following the event, Lawson sold his apparel, took photos and signed autographs for students, faculty and parents.
“Students enjoyed the show and thought getting to meet Preacher after the event was unique and fun,” Kelly Lee, the director of student activities, said.
