“I’m really relieved that they caught him and that he was arrested,” said junior Anna Claire Taylor, a political science and history double major.
Last week, the TCU Police Department posted a safety bulletin warning students of an attempted burglary in the 3100 block of Sandage Avenue.
A student reported that she saw two men on her Ring doorbell camera footage attempting to open her back door Feb. 23. One of the men appeared to have a gun, according to the bulletin.
“I was honestly pretty scared because I live in a house off-campus with just girls, so I really empathize with the students that reported this,” Taylor said.
After they got the report, both TCU Police and Fort Worth Police sent extra patrols to the area.
The police departments emphasized the importance of taking extra security measures.
“Having Ring doorbells were very helpful in the suspect’s apprehension. So having an extra layer of security around one’s home is always beneficial and helpful,” said Tracy Carter, a Fort Worth public relations officer. “We urge all students to be vigilant and cautious of your surroundings.”
Police also encouraged students to download the FrogShield mobile app, which lets students contact police quickly. For students living off-campus, FrogShield will connect to 911.
