TCU legend Max Duggan was unable to find a permanent spot on the Chargers roster, resulting in being released from the team on Monday, Aug. 19. After preseason play, new head coach Jim Harbaugh kept Easton Stick and Luis Perez as QB two and three, respectively, to Justin Herbert.
The former TCU quarterback made his 2024 preseason debut against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, Aug. 17. Falling five points short of a victory, he completed four of seven pass attempts for 41 yards.
After being drafted by the Chargers in 2023, he struggled to remain on the squad. He was released from the team in Aug. 28, 2023 but was resigned to the practice squad two days later. He got waived again on Dec. 28 and got resigned to the active roster four days later. On Jan. 9, 2024, Duggan was signed to a reserve/future roster to compete for a backup spot, leading to now, where he did not find a place.
Duggan’s future in the NFL is in the hands of the other teams as he is on waivers. It is notable that Duggan was released from the Chargers with Harbaugh coming in, as the last time Duggan shared a field with him was in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl.
