After a tough draw against Texas Tech, TCU took a win against the Cal Poly Mustangs during Senior Day for the Horned Frogs.
This match was the first time that the Horned Frogs played Cal Poly. Five different Frogs tallied a goal.
After the match against SMU on Sept. 1 with a goal by sophomore defender Bella Diorio, the TCU soccer team hasn’t scored since.
In the first half, junior forward Seven Castain scored the game’s first goal with a penalty kick, leading the team to 1-0 against Cal Poly. Her penalty kick marked her seventh goal this season.
With 27 minutes left in the first half, graduate midfielder Sara Brocious made a kick to Diorio who showcased her dribbling abilities through the defense to score a goal.
Even though it was a tough goal for Diorio to score, the ball was able to go past the Mustangs’ sophomore goalkeeper Riley Wilkerson and into the back of the net.
In the second half, the Horned Frogs took the lead at 3-0. Halfway through the second, the Horned Frogs got another penalty kick that was done by senior midfielder Oli Pena. After Pena made her kick, there was a pre-planned celebration that was never seen by the Horned Frogs before.
Toward the end of the match, TCU made a few substitutions with their lead. Castain and Diorio went out with freshman forwards Ainsley Moy and Caroline Kelly went in.
Cal Poly managed to score their first goal of the game after a foul by TCU.
Near the end of the match, Moy made her first goal of the season, leading the frogs to a 5-1 victory against Cal Poly.
The Frogs finished the game with a 5-2-1 record. Next, TCU soccer is home again on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. against BYU, who are considered one of the best teams in the conference. Watch in person at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium or stream on ESPN+.
