A member of Donald Trump’s Secret Service team observed an armed suspect aiming an AK-47-style rifle with a scope Sunday at Trump who was playing Trump International Golf Club, according to CBS.
No shots were fired by the suspect at the West Palm Beach, Florida club. But the secret services officers did shoot their weapons.
The suspect fled in an SUV was later apprehended in a black SUV on Northbound I-95 at 714. The rifle was recovered at the scene, an anonymous source told the Associated Press.
The incident took place “on the grounds” of the golf course while former president Trump was present, reported New York Times.
The secret service said the security detail observed the suspect just before 2 p.m.
The suspect has not made any statements at this time, said CNN.
In July, a gunman fired shots during Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania; two people, including the gunman, were killed. Trump’s ear was grazed.
