Former TCU quarterback Andy Dalton has replaced Bryce Young as the Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback.
Young, who was drafted first overall in 2023, has struggled to find success in the NFL after the team only had two wins last season.
Head coach Dave Canales benched the Young he racked up two losses this season.
Dalton had an impressive tenure as a Horned Frog. He is best known for his performance in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2011, when the Frogs topped No. 7 Wisconsin 21-19.
He won Rose Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player award after completing 15 of 23 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown. He also had 23 rushing yards and a touchdown.
That was the third bowl game MVP he won, the two others from the 2007 Texas Bowl and 2008 Poinsettia Bowl.
He earned Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010, along with a novel of accolades for his performance.
Dalton held the TCU record for most passing yards in a season with 10,314 yards, before Trevone Boykin took over it in 2012 with 10,728 yards. Dalton is now third for most passing touchdowns with 71 and second for most yards on offense with 11,925.
Dalton was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round during the 2011 NFL Draft. He remained with the Bengals until 2019, then played for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears, ultimately landing on the Panthers. It’s his second year with the team.
