The Frogs’ equestrian team is gearing up to take on SMU this Friday in their season opener.
The team finished last season with a strong 14-3 record. Two of its losses came against SMU, including an 11-7 defeat in the final regular season match and a 12-7 loss in the NCEA National Championship.
Key riders, such as Shea Graham, Ashleigh Scully and Kaylene Cunningham, are returning to the team, but the Frogs will feel the absence of standout rider Mattie Dukes.
The new roster includes 11 freshmen. Newcomer Maggie Dumrauf expressed her excitement about joining the team.
“I’m eager to dive deeper into my academic interests, give my all to the team and build lasting friendships and memories,” Dumrauf said.
One area of concern for the Frogs is the team’s performance in reining. In both losses to SMU, the team struggled, posting a 3-1 record in the first match and a 4-1 score in the championship. This was unexpected, especially given their dominance in reining last season, where they outscored opponents 45-29. Improvement in this area will be key as the season unfolds.
The rivalry between TCU and SMU is fueled by the Fort Worth and Dallas feud. Large crowds are expected Friday, Sept. 20, when the Frogs take on SMU at Bear Creek Farms in their opening match of the season.
