All TCU students can participate in upcycling and reworking their old denim at the TCU Fashion Forward Club’s (FRWD) first denim workshop on Friday, Sept. 27. The workshop will take place in the Fine Arts Building from noon to 2 p.m.
FRWD Vice President Kelsey Boyette inspired the workshop by wanting to encourage non-fashion merchandising majors interested in fashion to get involved.
FRWD’s purpose is to encourage self-expression and creativity.
The club also provides its members with tools for networking and exploring their interest in the fashion industry.
“We want the workshop to be an opportunity for fashion merchandising majors to have the space to relax, take a step back and remember why they love fashion so much,” FRWD President Dazani Price said.
Price hopes that the workshop “promotes sustainability in fashion.”
According to a 2022 survey on retail sustainability, 76% of Generation Z in the United States expects retailers and brands to become more sustainable. The other generations included in the study appear to agree.
It is important to Price that FRWD welcomes fashion lovers of all genders and majors.
Students can bring their used or thrifted denim. Embellishments like patches, rhinestones and fabric paint will be available for use.
