The Houston Cougars never trailed in the game as they defeated the Horned Frogs 30-19.
The Cougars’ 27th ranked defense consistently got the better of TCU as they held them to 299 yards of offense.
Josh Hoover threw a pair of costly interceptions along with a fumble to close the game. They also held top receiver Jack Bech to 4 catches for 55 yards.
Hoover ended the game with 233 yards, and two touchdowns along with those picks. A far cry from the Josh Hoover that we have seen this season.
When talking about the issue and the increase in turnovers, Hoover took responsibility.
“Things have been going wrong that needs to change and that starts with me.”
TCU’s defense had no answers for Cougars quarterback Zeon Chriss as he passed for 141 yards while running for 97 yards with a touchdown through the air and another one on the ground.
TCU suffered a big loss early in the game as starting safety, Abe Camara was ejected for targeting on a 3 and 1. That penalty gave the Cougars a first down and that drive ended in a touchdown.
The Cougars’ offense had scored zero points in their last two games before clashing with the Horned Frogs.
There was a bright spot for TCU as running back, Cam Cook rushed for 72 while averaging six yards a carry. Cook has been off to a slow start this season only totaling 259 rushing yards through five games.
The biggest difference in the game was the turnover battle as TCU committed four while Houston committed zero.
Coach Sonny Dykes said that turnovers were the biggest reason they lost.
“We would get some momentum, then we would make mistakes and turn the ball over.”
TCU is on the bye next week before they go on the road against Utah on October 19th.
