A new addition to the Campus Commons is currently underway — TCU’s first-ever cloud-based store, The Shoppe at Wright, located in the Wright Media Center.
The Shoppe features Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology, allowing students to enter, select items and leave without a traditional checkout process.
“Access will be through a private entrance in the Wright Media Center. You go through two gates, using an app called the Get App to scan in,” said Miles Oller, director of facilities for student affairs.
As for checkout, Oller described it as seamless: “There isn’t one, really. When you leave, the cameras track your items, and you can view your receipt in the app.”
The technology behind The Shoppe requires specific camera placements and specialized coolers, which allow staff to restock without disrupting the camera systems.
“One of the coolest features is that it’s the only 24/7 location on campus,” Oller said, emphasizing its value for students who need a late-night snack without leaving campus. The store will offer snacks, drinks, toiletries and even produce.
Sophomore business major Ben Isernhagen shared his excitement: “It’s going to be awesome. I love the grab-and-go convenience— it’ll save me so much time.”
The Shoppe is expected to open in mid-October, with a targeted opening date of Monday, Oct. 12th, according to Oller.
