The Campus Recreation and Wellness Promotion Program is hosting five more adventure trips this semester that any TCU student is welcome to attend.
Outdoor programs like adventure trips are meant to enhance the TCU community by “facilitating personal growth, championing holistic wellness, appreciating nature, developing transferable skills and building connectedness amongst students, staff, faculty and community members,” said Emily Tumilty, an outdoor program coordinator who started working at TCU in 2022 after previously working at camps and outdoor nonprofits.
Emma Burgess, a sophomore nursing major, has attended several adventure trips, including the October 2023 Buffalo National River Trip and the Frog’s First paddle on Benbrook Lake this semester.
“I love how these paddling trips can bring people together from all different backgrounds,” Burgess said.
She said she appreciates the opportunity to step off campus for an afternoon to decompress and enjoy the peace.
“Full Moon Paddles,” fall break trips and spring break trips have become staples in the program since the Campus Rec began running Adventure Trips in 2005.
The fall break trip, happening in the Guadalupe Mountains this year, tends to be the fall semester’s most popular trip.
The “Full Moon Paddle” on Benbrook Lake in Fort Worth is another popular trip; three are planned this semester. The registration deadline for the upcoming Oct. 17 paddle is Oct. 16. Between six and twelve spots are available for each trip.
In addition to two “Full Moon Paddles,” upcoming Adventure Trips this semester include a climbing day trip in Mineral Wells, weekend camping trips in the Wichita Mountains and a trip to the Caprock Canyons State Park in Briscoe County, Texas.
Registration costs for climbing, hiking and paddling trips range from $30 to $200, but some offer early bird pricing.
Further information for all fall trips can be found on the Adventure Trips website.
Locations for the spring semester will be posted at the end of the fall semester.
