No. 23 TCU women’s golf team travels to San Marcos this weekend for the Jim West Challenge, looking to build on back-to-back top-five finishes heading into the Texas State-hosted event.
The Horned Frogs, currently the third-highest-ranked team in the Big 12 behind No. 4 Arizona State and No. 8 Arizona, will compete in their ninth straight appearance at Kissing Tree Golf Club. TCU has had considerable success at the venue, including a win in 2018 and a runner-up finish in 2021. Last season, the team set a program record for low round versus par, carding a 17-under 271 in their final 18 holes.
TCU enters the tournament with momentum following a fourth-place finish at the Schooner Fall Classic and a victory at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in September. The Keene Trace Golf Club win marked their first tournament title in six years, with the team finishing seven-over (871) to win by a 12-stroke margin.
The Horned Frogs’ lineup features three players ranked in the top 100 nationally. Sophomore Kirstin Angosta (No. 77) comes in with consecutive top-20 finishes and holds TCU’s season records for the low round (66) and low 54-hole score (213). Junior Sofia Barroso Sá (No. 85) leads the team in scoring average at 72.6 and has placed inside the top 20 in all three starts this fall. Senior Meagan Winans (No. 94) leads the team with 27 birdies through three events.
Freshmen Gracie McGovern and Camille Min-Gaultier round out the five-player roster. McGovern, ranked as high as seventh in the 2023 Rolex Junior Rankings, has already notched two top-20 finishes in her collegiate career. Min-Gaultier tied for 11th at the Schooner Fall Classic, shooting a collegiate-best 67 in the final round. Sophomore Sofie Dimitrova will compete as an individual.
The 12-team field includes five teams ranked in the top 50, with TCU entering as the highest-ranked squad. Teams will play 36 holes on Sunday followed by 18 holes on Monday at the par-72, 6,123-yard layout, with all rounds streaming live on ESPN+.
The tournament marks TCU’s penultimate fall event before they host their first home tournament in four seasons, the inaugural Charles Schwab Women’s Collegiate at Ridglea Country Club, Oct. 28-29. The program, under 31st-year head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin, has qualified for NCAA Regionals in 27 of her 30 completed seasons and is currently riding a streak of 22 consecutive seasons with NCAA postseason representation.
