TCU fell to Baylor in a 37-34 shootout, bringing TCU’s four-game winning streak to an end.
Quarterback Josh Hoover had 333 passing-yards and two touchdowns. He took care of the ball and did not turn the ball over for the first time in five games.
“I played quarterback,” Hoover said. “I didn’t worry as much. We believe in ourselves and try not to be ruled by fear.”
Wide receiver Jack Bech continues to be Hoover’s top target as he hauled in five catches for 98 yards with a receiving touchdown.
Wide receiver Savion Williams was consistent in his momentum with eight catches for 92 yards. He did have a costly drop, which would have been a run for a touchdown.
Williams redeemed himself as TCU faced a fourth-and-two on Baylor’s six-yard line. Williams took the snap and acted like he was going to run it before he connected with Bech in the end zone.
Despite not having as many yards as the receivers mentioned, Jordyn Bailey had the play of the night as he made a one-handed catch and reeled in a touchdown to get TCU on the board.
TCU’s ground game was held in check as they ran for 60 yards with just 3.5 yards-per-carry. Savion Williams led the group with 57 yards on the ground.
The Baylor offense was the opposite as their ground game led the way for them.
The Baylor running game compiled 257 yards with 5.8 yards an attempt. Starting running back Bryson Washington rushed for 196 yards, and four touchdowns, both stats are season highs.
The TCU defense struggled to stop the run or get much pressure against Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson as they surrendered 499 yards of total offense to Baylor.
Coach Dykes touched on his defense’s performance. “We got worn down a bit inside and they ran the ball well and we couldn’t get it stopped in the run game and couldn’t get enough pressure on the quarterback.”
Baylor rolled the dice and went for it on fourth down late in the game and converted, which led to the game winning field goal.
Coach Dykes summed up the feelings of fans. “I’m frustrated, we had opportunities to get off the field on fourth down and we just couldn’t do it.”
TCU looks to bounce back in their next game at Amon G. Carter Stadium against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Nov. 9.
