This is the seventh time in Horned Frog history that TCU women’s soccer has advanced to the Big 12 championship game.
After taking on Colorado in the quarterfinals, beating them 3-1, TCU advanced to the semi-finals against No. 1 BYU.
The game played like a chess match, with both sides making calculated moves.
After a goal by BYU, the Horned Frogs turned up the heat and were determined to catch up.
In the 40th minute, graduate student Caroline Kelly found the back of the net, assisted by first-year Cameron Patton. Kelly took the shot inside the six, and the game was officially tied, 1-1.
Quickly, just a minute after that goal, the Horned Frogs found the net again. Junior Seven Castain saw the ball after one of Patton’s shots deflected, scoring her 13th goal this season.
BYU attempted to tie the score but was unsuccessful. Senior Maddie Mooney and junior Jennie Immenthuh held down the Horned Frogs’ defense until the very end.
This win allowed TCU to advance to the Big 12 Championship game, where they will take on Kansas University, which had the win against Texas Tech.
The last time TCU won the tournament was in 2021, when they beat Texas Tech.
The game is set for Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. and televised on ESPN+.
