For years, TCU’s fall commencement has been broken into two ceremonies. This year, the university is bringing everyone together and hosting a reception afterward.
“It is special for the class to graduate together, if possible, in December,” said Brad Thompson, executive director of community projects and university events.
Unified Ceremony Highlights
The university expects about 700 graduates to cross the stage in the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena. The ceremony is estimated to take around two hours and 15 minutes.
Anna Albrecht, a senior allied health major with a kinesiology emphasis, will be graduating in December. She says the move to having one ceremony is an exciting change for the graduates and their loved ones attending.
“Having all 700 of us graduate together feels like it will create a sense of unity and a shared celebration,” Albrecht said. “I appreciate the intent to make this moment more special and inclusive for everyone involved. It could make the ceremony feel more meaningful, knowing everyone from the fall class is walking together.”
Celebratory Reception Details
Following the ceremony, there will be a reception on the Schollmaier Arena lawn for graduates, families and friends to celebrate.
At the reception, you can find light appetizers, as well as photo opportunities for graduates and their families.
While the fall commencement is a major event on campus for graduating students and their families, it is just as big for the Fort Worth community.
Accommodations and Community Impact
The TCU Hyatt is a great option for families to stay in for commencement, located right down the road from campus, with many celebratory activities.
While the Hyatt will be busy during commencement weekend in December, there are still some rooms available for guests. The hotel has seen a heavy pickup in bookings for the commencement weekend since the summer.
As for celebrations at the hotel, the staff will host events for those who have booked private parties. There is still availability for graduation parties at Lot 12, in the Frog Bar or the hotel’s ballroom for families who would still like to book an event. You can contact the sales department for any bookings.
The Hyatt is planning for high energy and a festive weekend. As for the graduates, Albrecht noted the mixed feelings of accomplishment and anticipation for what is to come next after graduation. While it is a bittersweet but exciting milestone, the one commencement ceremony will emphasize the collective TCU experience and make it more memorable.
“Graduating in December has its own unique vibe as the year ends,” Albrecht said. “It’s special, differing from the typical spring rush.”
The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024.
