It was a head-to-head game as the Frogs captured a 58-49 win against the South Alabama Jaguars.
Following tip-off, both teams immediately got to work, showcasing aggressive play on both ends of the court. However, South Alabama took control of the pace of the match. The Frogs struggled to breakthrough the Jaguars defense, turning the ball over seven times while only forcing just three turnovers of their own.
TCU only made passes around the arc, unable to penetrate into the paint. This led to a shooting percentage of 38% in the beginning of the game.
While turnovers and the lack of shooting put TCU at a disadvantage early on, the team’s out-rebounding effort kept them from getting too far behind. In the first half, TCU out-rebounded South Alabama 21-10.
Halfway through this first half, communication eminently clicked for the Frogs and clean offensive execution began to show. Smart passes and ball movement allowed TCU to take the lead, 30-28.
The Horned Frogs started off the second half with a scoring drought, only scoring twice within the first six minutes. This allowed South Alabama to regain control and take the lead.
TCU felt the absence of Frankie Collins, a key contributor as he led the team in scoring, assists and steals. Collins was recently announced to be out for the season due to a broken foot. Nonetheless, the Frogs showed that they remain competitive despite this loss.
Both teams were able to catch wind again as they began exchanging shots, keeping this a close game. TCU didn’t let this continue for long and took control of the remainder of play, pulling to their biggest lead of the night 48-42.
Trazarien White led the Frogs with 13 points, three assists and five rebounds. On the other side, South Alabama’s Barry Dunning Jr. led the Jaguars with 17 points, one assist, and three rebounds. TCU closed with a final score of 58-49.
Now 6-4, the Horned Frogs face Montana State in the Schollmaier Arena on Dec. 22 at 12 p.m.
