After 17 lead changes, TCU reigned victorious against BYU for its first win against the Cougars since 1997, 71-67.

TCU’s Noah Reynolds continues to lead the Horned Frogs in scoring with a 21-point game. He averages over 20 points per game in conference play.

After a sluggish three-and-a-half-minute start, both teams found their rhythm and shots began to tally.

TCU found ways to beat BYU’s zone and adapted as needed. At the 12:29 mark, the teams’ 3-point shots began to fall, shooting more than 50% beyond the arc in the first half.

BYU gave TCU ten shots just from turnovers, but TCU was outrebounded 17-10. The Cougars took advantage of the Frog’s lack of rebounding and closed the half on a 14-1 run to take the lead, 37-34.

Coming out of halftime, freshman Micah Robinson came out of the locker room immediately fired with five points for the Frogs, but TCU was not able to get a lead until minutes into the second half. Following a contested layup by Reynolds, Robinson was able to ice the win with two made free throws.

“Knowing that I have that trust from my coaches and teammates means a lot,” Robinson said. “Getting back to defensive principles aided them in the second half.”

BYU’s ongoing turnover issue was inevitably what cost them this matchup, ending the game 16-6, and giving TCU seven more points while only scoring nine of their own the entire second half.

The Frogs were outrebounded 35-24, and continued to struggle with free throws, as they finished 12-of-19. Head coach Jamie Dixon noted that the team took care of the ball, and that’s how they won the game. Dixon also mentioned that rebounding has to be fixed going forward.

TCU men’s basketball will remain at home to face the Utah Utes on Jan. 15. Tipoff  is set for 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
