After a competitive first half, TCU women’s basketball (22-3, 10-2) closed out the game with an 18-2 run in a commanding 79-47 win over BYU (12-11, 3-9).
The Frogs continue their record-breaking home win streak, with this win coming in at No. 17.
The team’s star trio of Sedona Prince, Hailey Van Lith, and Madison Conner all recorded double-digit points: Conner with 14, Prince with 13 and Van Lith with 11. Agnes Emma-Nnopu also had 10 points.
Conner’s scoring dominance started early in the first quarter, shooting three-of-four from the field and two-of-three from beyond the arc. She shot five-of-12 from the field and accounted for four of the team’s 10 threes.
TCU led by as many as 10 in the first, but a two-minute scoring drought allowed the Cougars to creep into its lead. With Prince subbed out, BYU forward Emma Calvert dominated around the rim, going three-of-six from the field and recording one block. Her dominance was short-lived, as she only made three field goals after the first quarter.
Deasia Merrill went in for Prince in the second quarter after not seeing the floor much this season. She had six points in the first half and ended with nine total. She also had seven total rebounds.
Prince reentered the game and controlled the game defensively in the second half. The senior forward finished with four blocks in the game and now totals 79 on the season, ranking third in the NCAA.
TCU capitalized on being a low-turnover team with eight but forced 16 BYU mistakes. The Horned Frogs converted them into 25 points. The team also out-rebounded the Cougars 43-31. Prince and Merrill tied with seven rebounds each.
Living up to their place at eighth in the country in assists, TCU had 23, with Donovyn Hunter and Una Jovanovic combining for 12.
Up next, TCU women’s basketball will head to Tucson, Ariz., to face the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday, Feb. 16 at McKale Center. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
