In order to guide women aspiring to pursue a career in sports, Lena Forbes and Alexandra Smith, both senior sports broadcasting majors, founded the TCU Women in Sports Network club. The club launched at the beginning of January as the first all-women club dedicated to sports networking in TCU history.
The founders hope to build a community for women in sports for many years on TCU’s campus and possibly other chapters across the nation.
“I felt that there was a lack of interconnectedness and community across TCU’s campus,” Forbes said. “It was important to us to help them get connected with each other outside of classes.”
The club currently has over 25 members and a little over 150 followers on its Instagram, @TCUWISN. On Instagram, the executive board shares internship opportunities for students and events happening in the DFW area.
“We are here to help connect women with tools and resources necessary to launch their career within the sports industry,” Forbes said.

For many students, the job application process can be intimidating for soon-to-be graduates.
“Finding internships and job opportunities was one of the hardest times of my life,” Sara Colbert, a TCU journalism alumna, said. “Having a network of people to help you find opportunities in and out of college would be a really beneficial program.”
Alexah Montanes, a junior sports broadcasting and journalism double major, said she found an internship with the Big 12 Communications team through The Women in Sports Network Instagram.
There are upcoming opportunities for members of the TCU Women in Sports Network.
“We are working on some exciting activities, including a free professional headshot shoot and speaker panels of successful women within the DFW area who will talk about their personal experiences,” Forbes said.
