The Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame inducted TCU legend LaDainian Tomlinson into the 2025 class at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel in Dallas, Texas. This prestigious award adds another accolade to Tomlinson’s legendary collegiate and professional career.
“I have so many of my former teammates here today and family members. It’s such an honor,” Tomlinson said in his induction speech. “This never gets old. I’ve been fortunate to go into a few Hall of Fames now, but just to be recognized like this, it never gets old.”
The African American Museum in Dallas, Texas, established this award in 1996. The award honors pioneering Black athletes and leaders for their athletic and post-career achievements. Every year, the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame selects their inductees through public nominations and a board of judges. The 2025 class includes Olympians, NFL and NBA stars, including Michelle Carter, Larry Brown, Larry Johnson and Eugene Lockhart Jr.

This is not the only award that celebrates Black athletes. The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and Black Fives Foundation celebrate African American athletes in baseball and pre-NBA basketball.
Tomlinson had a legendary career during his four years at TCU. He accumulated over 6000 all-purpose yards and 54 touchdowns. Tomlinson earned the 1999 and 2000 WAC Offensive Player of the Year awards. He won the Doak Walker Award, was a Unanimous All-American, and placed fourth in the 2000 Heisman Trophy vote.
The San Diego Chargers selected Tomlinson 5th overall, and he played nine of his eleven seasons with them. In 2017, he entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
