TCU baseball secures a win in the home opener against Tarleton State University, 4-2.
The Frogs opened up with a quick top of the first, closing three outs with only one hit on the board for the Tarleton State Texan Riders.
Sophomore infielder Colton Griffin tallied the first hit for the Frogs with a triple. A fly ball from Isaac Cadena solidified Griffin’s hit into the first run of the game right after, 1-0.
The second inning saw no runs from either team. TCU picked up the intensity in the third to put Griffin on the third after a walk, stolen base and quick hit to move him forward. Unable to convert the runner, the Frogs entered the fourth without adding a run.
Tarleton State followed in suit, putting runners on first and third at the top of the fourth without any outs on the board. Trace Morrison managed a bullet down the center of the field to move runners to first and second and a scored run, 1-1. A wild pitch from TCU’s Zack James moved runners to second and third with a hit right after to solidify another run for the Texan Riders before the end of the inning, 1-2.
Cole Cramer opened the bottom of the fourth with a base hit before a short out to move him to second. He was then tagged out in an attempt to steal third. Sam Myers followed him with a base hit and a move forward with a walk for Jack Bell. A hit from Sawyer Strosnider brought another run in for the Frogs to make the score 2-2, forcing a pitching change for Tarleton State. Griffin unleashed another fly ball, dropped by the Texan Rider outfielder to put runner on second and third and tallying a third run before finishing the inning, 3-2.

The Texan Riders met TCU in their intensity, stacking runners on first and second at the top of the fifth. A walk led to loaded bases for Tarleton State with only one out but was unable to translate the opportunity to any runs.
Right into the bottom of the fifth Chase Brunson and Noah Franco rallied two base hits. The Texan Rider pitcher walked Cramer to load the bases. Three out laters, TCU failed to add more points to the board. But, the Frogs closed the top of the sixth with an easy three outs.
The bottom of the sixth and top of the seventh followed the same pace without a new run. The bottom of the seventh was decorated with walks from Franco, Cramer and Nolan Traeger to load the bases. Bell grounded out to advance the runners forward and add a run for the Frogs before the end of the inning, 4-2.
The eighth inning flew by with no outstanding plays. TCU’s Kade Eudy struck out three players in a row to finish off the game for a Horned Frog win 4-2.
Next, TCU faces Southern Mississippi for a triple-header beginning Friday at 6 p.m. on home turf.
