With an event featuring flowers, friendship bracelets and flamingos, TCU’s Crew partnered with Her Campus to kick off celebrations for International Women’s Day. The holiday took place on Saturday, March 8, and the entire month is dedicated to women’s history. The clubs plan to host more events throughout the month that honor the role that women have played in TCU’s history.
International Women’s Day is over a century old. It was first celebrated in 1911 after being proposed at the International Conference of Working Women in Copenhagen. Here at TCU, over one hundred years later, theCrew’s event was a night of gratitude for the female frogs that inspire and empower across campus.
“It’s just an event celebrating all women and womanhood,” said Abby Cohen, director of marketing for theCrew and director of social media for Her Campus. “All of the things that bring us together.”
The event provided a unique opportunity for two of Cohen’s organizations to collaborate.
TheCrew is one of TCU’s largest student leadership organizations, and it hosts roughly 100 events per year, catering to a wide variety of student interests.
Her Campus is a national student organization dedicated to empowering women on college campuses. The TCU chapter posts weekly blogs and hosts biweekly chapter meetings. The two organizations decided that International Women’s Day provided the perfect opportunity to join forces.

Participants sipped mocktails while jamming out to pop hits from the 2000s. Many made bouquets or even stopped at the red carpet photo booth to snap a quick picture. The event also featured a table for students to provide words of affirmation to the women of TCU.
“It’s about uplifting women specifically here on this campus,” Cohen said with a smile.
