Students and faculty who live or park near the east side of TCU’s campus may have noticed a number of road work signs and construction vehicles lining large portions of the streets on that side of campus during the past several weeks.

These changes are part of the next phase of TCU’s “Lead On to the Next 150” campus construction plan.
The westbound lanes of Lowden Street, Cantey Street and a portion of Merida Avenue have been closed to accommodate the new construction sites. The closure on Lowden Street is expected to last until April 30 while the closures on Merida Avenue and Cantey Street are expected to last until July 16.
The current phase of the construction plan is focused on creating a residential hub on the east side of TCU’s campus. “The East Campus Housing and Dining facility that opened last month, in addition to the Athletic Human Performance Center that will open this summer are projects that are identified in the recently approved MP,” John Pinachio, project manager for this construction site, said.

There are also plans to begin construction for a new parking garage and additional housing within the next year.
As of right now, students and faculty will still have access to the parking lots and partial access to the aforementioned streets on that side of campus. The companies behind this project including Sasaki, an architectural planning firm and Walker Parking, have also developed a strategy to accommodate potential traffic related concerns.
“This plan proposes the use of underutilized surface parking, primarily on the west side of campus, coupled with enhanced pedestrian and bike corridors to serve near term parking needs,” Pinachio said.
