Future Nurses camp was created to provide participants with hands-on learning, while being guided by TCU nursing faculty and students.
This opportunity allows attendees to gain insights into the nursing field, various skills and a range of patient care techniques.
Those skills include wound care, assessing patients and understanding medical terminology. The program prioritizes the importance of effective communication, anatomy, physiology and math in patient care.
Attendees will get hands-on experience through hospital visits and interactions with human patient simulators.
In addition, throughout the program, attendees will participate in skill-building activities and complete an American Heart Association CPR course.
“I gained amazing academic insight into what classes I would be taking and how to be successful at them. We focused on the development of important skills like teamwork, problem-solving and communication, which still benefit me to this day,” Ashlynn Adams, a sophomore nursing major and childhood development minor, said.
Adams said the camp helped her decide where to go to college and gave her the confidence to pursue nursing.

By the end of the program, attendees will understand what it means to be part of TCU’s prestigious nursing community. The camp will help students understand the commitment to pursuing a career in healthcare.
Each session is five days. The first session is June 22 through June 27. The second session is July 6 through July 11.
Attendance costs $980 per camper. This includes five nights in TCU housing, meals, T-shirts, a stethoscope and all activities. Scholarships are available and more information will be provided in the acceptance email.
If interested, attendees must complete the application form and essay. A current high school transcript is recommended. The deadline for applications is March 31. Enrollment is limited to 40 students per camp.
