As the end of the semester, TCU’s Vietnamese Student Association is preparing to host their 10th annual Amazing Vietnam (AVN) culture show featuring the debut of their student produced musical, “Eclipse” on Saturday, April 5.

The VSA has always been committed to providing a space for Vietnamese students to find community and educate people about Vietnam’s culture, Kate Vu, a sophomore nursing major and president of the VSA said. The AVN began in 2014 with its first production, Amazing Vietnam: Journey to the Motherland as a part of that mission. This show invited students to learn about the vibrant culture of Vietnam and explore some of its major cities.
Ever since then, it has been held every year and has become so popular that it was moved from the BLUU Ballroom to the BLUU Auditorium to accommodate more attendees. Even after changing locations, the event consistently sells out including this year where they sold all 300 tickets as of March 28.
This year’s show, “Eclipse,” which began production in December 2024, follows a villager from Vietnam’s northern mountain range. The villager, Chai, meets four strangers, Joy, Anger, Sadness, and Fear, then goes on an adventure and answers questions about culture and identity.
“Vietnam has 54 ethnic groups in total and up in the mountain, like up in the northern mountainous area. That’s where the majority of the ethnic minorities live,” Vu said. “We did our research on the things that we choose to put in the show to highlight like the beauty of the ethnic group.”

The VSA’s goal in producing the Amazing Vietnam culture show is to give students the opportunity to engage with Vietnamese culture through visual media and highlight the talent of their members. The entire show was written, produced and performed by student members of the organization. Between writing, tech crews, hair, makeup teams and more, the whole process involved contributions from 50 students.
In addition to the performances, the event will also kick off with a dinner including a variety of Vietnamese dishes and boba tea for guests to enjoy.
While the event is already sold out, those looking to support the VSA or attend their future events can find their events on What2do@TCU or follow their Facebook or Instagram.
