Students interested in country dance can learn new steps weekly from the TCU Twisters.

The student-led club practices boot scootin’ at the University Recreation Center on Thursdays from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Multi-Purpose Room 1.
“I quickly became passionate about learning to dance and became close friends with the people in the club,” TCU Twisters Club President Kathleen Thiele said.
The TCU Twisters are part of Hardwood Hearts, a larger parent organization that provides dance instructors to other country dance clubs at other universities and schools in the DFW area.
“My favorite part about leading the club is making my visions a reality. I can cook up an idea of something fun I want to plan,” Thiele said. “It is so satisfying to see my closest friends laughing and smiling while playing the games.”
The TCU Twisters compete in events that round up the club to dance around Fort Worth.

“The biggest event we have coming up is the Hardwood Classic,” Thiele said. “This event is hosted at UNT on April 19 at the end of the year and is for every country dance club from many North Texas universities.”
Country dancing is a key part of the Fort Worth area and the city’s rich Western heritage. It is a popular, fun activity and a great way to connect with local culture.
“We spend at least an hour every week learning a move to apply to partner dancing, which is the majority of the dance we do when we go to places like Billy Bob’s,” first-year piano performance major Nikita Simonenko said. “We love seeing new people at the meeting and helping each other with the dances.”
