TCU Panhellenic is one of the largest student groups on campus and it takes many student executives to lead recruiting and philanthropy efforts.
Although many people view the 13 Greek chapters that make up Panhellenic as primarily social organizations, there are also strong emphasis on philanthropy. Each chapter has a cause it raises money for, but all chapters support the Circle of Sisterhood, which works to remove educational barriers for girls facing poverty and oppression.
More than half of incoming first year students are expected to participate in primary recruitment this fall. Registration for recruitment opens June 2 and closes Aug. 1. The first round of formal recruitment will be conducted virtually on Aug. 6, with in-person recruitment beginning Aug. 12.
TCU Panhellenic’s 13 chapters represent about 3,800 women in the community. The organization’s executive team is made up of eight women from various sorority chapters who work together to support the Panhellenic community. Each executive position focuses on different aspects of the Panhellenic community and contributes to formal recruitment uniquely.
Kate Shaw, a sophomore business student who serves as the vice president of finance and administration, said she wanted to join the executive board “to meet new people, branch out and to step out of my comfort zone.”
The vice president of finance and administration position oversees budgets and expenditures for all 13 chapters, handling their dues and any money owed to Panhellenic, Shaw said.
She said her role during recruitment is to address financial transparency and assist the finance chairs of each chapter in preparing their financial transparency documents.
Drew Dowdy, a sophomore digital culture data analytics and psychology double major, serves as the vice president of public relations for the executive board.
This role includes managing Panhellenic social media and the website, creating promotional materials and working with different organizations on campus to represent Panhellenic in the best way possible, Dowdy said. She will be in Fort Worth for the summer to manage her duties for recruitment.
Dowdy is responsible for designing the recruitment booklet and handling advertisements to ensure the potential new members (PNMs) have all the information they need, designing and ordering the PNM totes, recruitment shirts and the Rho Gamma merchandise and making sure the website is user-friendly for PNM registration.
