In a historic first for the program, TCU football will open its 2026 season on international turf, taking on North Carolina in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland. The game is set for Aug. 29 at the 47,000-seat Aviva Stadium, with the Horned Frogs serving as the home team.
This marks TCU’s first-ever football game abroad and highlights the university’s broader mission of global engagement.

“This is more than just a football game,” TCU Athletic Director Mike Buddie said in a press release. “It’s an opportunity to advance TCU’s brand globally while giving our student-athletes a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
TCU’s ties to Ireland go beyond football. The university offers academic exchange programs in Dublin, supporting its commitment to preparing students for global impact.
Chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. emphasized the significance of the game, calling it a “huge opportunity for the Big 12, TCU Football, and our entire university.”
Head Coach Sonny Dykes echoed the excitement, noting the unique experience for players—many of whom may be traveling internationally for the first time. “It will be special to take the field in Dublin and for our fans to see us on this type of stage in Ireland,” Dykes said.
The Aer Lingus Classic continues to grow in global stature, bringing American college football to international audiences while generating significant tourism and economic benefits in Ireland. In 2024, the event contributed €146 million to the Irish economy. TCU’s participation in 2026 is expected to raise the event’s profile even further.
